Stan Sipos is the Conservative candidate for Oak Bay-Gordon Head. Born in Yugoslavia, Sipos’ mother died before his second birthday, and he spent three years in an Italian refugee camp with his father before coming to Canada.
Sipos’ early years here were spent working on the family’s mink ranch in northern Alberta before leaving to work as a construction labourer at just 16. He spent the next decade in the trades before building a 50-year career in business and real estate development.
“Stan remains active in award-winning developments built on a simple principle: a project has to earn community support, respect its surroundings, meet residents’ needs and make fiscal sense,” said the Conservative Party of B.C. “He is proudest of the Customs House heritage revitalization in Victoria’s Inner Harbour. He also co-founded Cielo Carbon Solutions, a carbon capture company that reduces emissions at the source while protecting the strength of Canada’s natural gas industry.”
A lifelong drag racer, Sipos has also won races across North America and was inducted into the inaugural class of the Canadian Drag Racing Hall of Fame.
Sipos lives with his wife and family in Oak Bay, and he will have to compete with three other candidates for votes: BC NDP incumbent Diana Gibson, former Green Party leader Andrew Weaver and two-term Oak Bay councillor Andrew Appleton.
Voting day is Saturday, Oct. 24.
